GRACE (4 years old): Mom, why are you getting out the *old* vacuum cleaner?

ME: I want to vacuum the dining room floor instead of sweeping it.

GRACE: Because you want Papa to be wary (very)happy when he comes home?

ME: (giggle) Yeah.

GRACE: Because he is your best friend?

ME: Yeah.

GRACE: Because he doesn't like it when it's dirty?

ME: (more giggles) Yeah.

GRACE: I'm going outside now!

ME: OK. Have fun!

Object lesson: Priceless!

It's good that things aren't too exciting. We're having a quiet day, too, and I'm trying to decide what to blog about later. We're going to watch Beyond the Gates of Splendor later. It's the story of Missionary Nate Saint who was killed by the Auca Indians and the salvation of the entire tribe. Pretty good missionary stuff!
